Initially favouring acrylic and brush, I now use spraypaint and acrylic pen to achieve the surreal landscapes and combination of graffiti style letters and more natural forms seen in my work on canvas.
Paintings focused around butterflies came as a response to my mother passing away at the end of 2012. The butterfly symbolises change and transformation – in entering a cocoon, a caterpillar must let everything he has ever known be left behind, and trust in a life filled with new possibilities and a whole new way of living.
Hair became a focus of much of my work, important in many cultures for spiritual well-being, health and energy. My fairytale girls allowed me to explore the hair theme, and femininity in our culture.
In my recent work I am exploring nature, our connection to it and the importance of this for our well-being.
The ‘light’ has appeared in most of my paintings over the years, representing an ongoing search for fulfilment and spiritual well-being.
